Professor Andrew J Pollard is the chief investigator of the global clinical trials of the Oxford COVID19 vaccine sponsored by the University of Oxford. He has been Director of the Oxford Vaccine Group in the Department of Paediatrics at the University since 2001 and leads the paediatric infectious disease clinical team at Oxford Children’s Hospital. His research involves the design, development, clinical testing and laboratory evaluation of vaccines with the aim of improving preventing serious infectious disease and improving child health.
We welcome Professor Pollard, who leads the team that designed and developed the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and recently reported a pooled analysis of Phase 3 trials of a vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 across two different dose regimens, resulting in an average efficacy of 70.4%. He will talk about the science and the story behind the vaccine development and what this means in terms of overcoming the COVID-19 virus and bringing us out of the pandemic. He intends to speak for 30-40 minutes and give lots of opportunity for questions about this important collaborative science project.
