Parents and carers are important influencers in determining whether their child will continue to study physics post-16. This session shares the findings from a large study in English schools as part of the Institute of Physics “Improving Gender Balance” research trial. The key determinants of parental attitudes towards physics will be presented, including factors that make it more or less likely their child will continue with the subject. Recommendations for actions that can be taken by schools will also be shared.
