The Covid pandemic has put science under stress as never before. Science has come to the rescue, but policymakers’ use of scientific evidence has also been challenged. In this short plenary I will ask what is the role of science education in preparing the public for a better informed debate, and I will ask whether we should be doing more in science teaching to emphasise the inherent uncertainty of scientific evidence. Few parts of the world have been untouched by the pandemic, and these are questions for science educators everywhere to discuss.

This session will be followed by the presentation of the CASTME awards
